Xerxes is the King of Persia who led a large army against Greece and won the Battle of Thermopylae but was defeated in the end (519-465 BC). Despite being young among his siblings, he was chosen to succeed his father, Darius I. He ruled between 485 and 465 BC, the fourth king of the Achaemenid dynasty of Persia. He was the fourth king of the Achaemenid dynasty in Persia. Like his predecessor Darius I, he ruled the empire at the top of its territory. He ruled from 486 BC until his assassination in 465 BC by Artabanus, commander of the royal bodyguard.
