Causes of hypoxic hypoxia include :-
- Hypoventilation due to a low respiratory rate and reduing carbon dioxide elimination from the alveoli.
Hypoventilation can also caused by diseases as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, obesity hypoventilation syndrome, neuromuscular diseases as myasthenia gravis, Guillain–Barré syndrome, muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, acute neurological processes or deformities of the chest or spine.
- Low-inspired oxygen or low fraction of inspired oxygen due to high altitude or during anesthesia.
- Airway obstruction/loss
